A Completely New Level of Small Form Factor PCs

The first generation Intel computer stick was very under-powered with an atom processor and one or two gigs of RAM depending on your configuration. It was an interesting idea but it didn’t perform well in the real world, especially if you try to run a full copy of Windows. The new, second-generation version of the Intel computer stick has an entirely new level of performance. The new model scored over twice as high as the first model in Geekbench 3. Within Intel m3 CPU and 4 GB of RAM, this could be a perfect 4K living room PC, basic web browsing machine or for presenting power points in the conference room.

It will be interesting to see what people do with such small form factor computers with so much power. While the raspberry pie is great, it wasn’t until the most recent generation where it could even perform everyday tasks at an acceptable speed. On the downside, the m5 model costs nearly $500 and only includes 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. At this price point, schools and libraries will most likely look at full-size computers so they can get more performance for the price. What would you do with such a small form-factor PC?
